Description

The “Lost Quintet” featuring Miles, Wayne Shorter, Chick Corea, Dave Holland and Jack DeJohnette. They toured in 1969 as a unit but unlike his previous “Great Quintets” this one was never captured on a studio album. The set features “Miles Runs The Voodoo Down” and “Bitches Brew” (both written by Miles) plus “Sanctuary” (written by Shorter) from Bitches Brew. “Directions” was a Joe Zawinul tune recorded in 1968 in the studio but unreleased until 1981’s compilation of the same name. Plus 3 songs that were part of the 2nd Great Quintet’s playbook: the Miles original “Agitation” that came on ESP, the Cahn/Styne standard “I Fall In Love Too Easily” which was included on Seven Steps To Heaven and then Miles’ album length take of “It’s About That Time” from In A Silent Way segueing into perennial set-ender “The Theme.” The 2LP will be in a gatefold with Mati Klarwein (who also did Bitches Brew and Live Evil covers along with tons of other killer covers) illustration as the cover.
